About the role: Swansea Young Persons service provides temporary accommodation to young people age 16-24 who are experiencing homelessness. The service delivers intensive housing related support to individuals who are ready to gain independence and a tenancy of their own. As a Young Persons Scheme Support Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the young people in our service. You will provide emotional and practical support, assist with any issues that may arise, and contribute to a calm and stable environment.
Duties include:
- Empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to live independently.
- Address complex behaviours and needs, including alcohol misuse, mental health issues, substance misuse, and offending behaviour.
- Work with a wide range of personalities and behaviours, including individuals who may be resistant to support.
- Adapt your approach to effectively engage with a diverse clientele.
- Undertake lone working, requiring strong communication skills, resilience, and confidence to work on your own initiative.
Skills and Experience Needed: To excel as a Scheme Support Officer, you don't necessarily need previous experience or specific qualifications. Instead, this role requires:
- A passion to work with and enable people to live as independent a life as possible.
- An enthusiasm and passion for making a difference to people’s lives.
- A strong initiative and ability to work alone as well as being a great team player.
- Ability to deal with conflicting and difficult situations.
