Quality Controller - Fresh Produce Industry - Croydon - £29,000 About the Company Our client is a well-established and leading office fruit supply business, having rapidly built a stable client base of over 4,000 companies across almost all sectors since 2006. The position is based at their Head Office in Croydon, London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Controller to play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of quality are maintained across all fruit arrivals and packed products. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the successful candidate will take ownership of quality checks from intake through to final packing, working closely with the Production team to minimise waste and maintain consistently high standards. The ideal candidate will have previous Quality Control, Quality Assurance or product inspection experience — ideally within food, FMCG, manufacturing, warehousing or a similar environment — with excellent attention to detail and a hands-on, methodical approach. Quality Controller - The Details Salary of £29,000 per annum Full-time, permanent position 40 hours per week, 4 nights (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) Night shift, 22:00 to 08:00 Based in Croydon Immediate start Key role within a well-established and growing fresh produce business Quality Controller - Requirements Previous Quality Control, Quality Assurance or product inspection experience, ideally within food, FMCG, manufacturing, warehousing or a similar environment Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards Confident and tenacious, with the ability to communicate and defend quality findings appropriately with other departments Ability to identify and respond effectively to quality issues Good written and verbal communication skills Ability and willingness to work permanent night shifts Previous Quality Control experience within the fresh produce industry Previous fruit checking, ripening or fresh produce inspection experience Full UK driving licence and confidence driving a company van Forklift licence or previous forklift experience Knowledge of stock rotation, waste control and quality standards within a food or fresh produce environment Quality Controller - Responsibilities Carry out quality intake checks on fruit arrivals in a timely manner across all fruit types Carry out quality checks on market purchases to ensure suitability against requirements Support fruit purchasing at the fruit market and, where required, drive a company van between the unit and the fruit market Assign an appropriate status to each arrival, taking expected waste levels into consideration Prepare and send advisories and rejection notifications to relevant departments where necessary, ensuring claims can be raised and collection of rejected fruit is arranged Assign, print and apply pallet labels for all intake pallets Play a key role in ensuring correct stock rotation of all fruit to minimise waste Help ensure fruit is ripe and ready for packing in order to reduce client complaints Liaise with the Production Manager and Line Leaders regarding any quality issues that may directly affect the Production Department Carry out fruit quality checks on packed products Carry out crate checks to ensure all packed fruit meets the required specification Ensure packing standards are maintained to help keep customer complaints and trouble tickets to a minimum Identify where training or retraining may be required within the Production team Monitor fruit waste levels to ensure fruit is not being over-graded, providing retraining where necessary Ensure high-risk and sample products are produced to the required standard Report any quality issues identified to the Quality Manager Attend Line Leader meetings to understand issues from the previous week and prepare for the week ahead About Us Detail2Recruitment acts as an employment agency in respect of this position.
