The Role
Responsible for leading and overseeing the seamless execution of all core warehouse functions during the assigned shift, managing a team of supervisors with end-to-end accountability for receiving and unloading, put-away, assembly, repack and labelling, inventory control, order fulfilment and dispatch. As a key operational leader with responsibility for maintaining service levels, safety standards, and shift performance against agreed KPIs, the role also includes responsibility for embedding continuous improvement initiatives to maximise overall efficiency, productivity and long term operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Receiving & Unloading: own performance for all inbound activity during the shift, ensuring all inbound deliveries are checked for quantity and quality against purchase orders and packing lists.
- Put-away & Storage: ensure timely, accurate put-away of inbound goods into optimal storage locations, maintaining location accuracy.
- Inventory Control: ensure pick-face replenishment is completed in line with min/max levels so that pickers always have stock available.
- Order Picking & Packing: deliver efficient, accurate picking and packing to meet service levels and productivity targets.
- Dispatch & Shipping: managing loading and trailer utilisation to meet carrier schedules and cut-off times, ensuring accuracy of dispatch documentation.
- Assembly, Repack & Labelling: oversee routine assembly, re-packaging and labelling, ensuring adherence to quality standards and performance targets.
- Shift Leadership & People Management: lead, coach and performance manage a team of supervisors.
- Performance: own all operational KPIs for the shift, including pick rate, OTIF performance, stock accuracy, container unload times, rework levels and space optimisation.
Skills Required
- Significant experience in warehouse operations, with at least 3 years in a shift leadership role managing multiple functional areas.
- Proven track record of managing and developing Supervisors and teams in a fast-paced, KPI-driven environment.
- Strong working knowledge of WMS/ERP systems for goods-in, storage, replenishment, picking, packing and dispatch.
- Solid understanding of inventory control, pick-face replenishment, space utilisation and order fulfilment processes.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within warehousing and distribution.
- Confident user of MS Office, including Excel, for KPI reporting and basic analysis.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills; able to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Hands-on, visible leader with a “floor-first” approach, comfortable intervening directly in operational issues when required.
