Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee and optimise our transportation operations. The selected candidate will be responsible for logistics, staff management and ensuring the smooth flow of goods through several channels. The position requires a strategic thinker with excellent supply chain management, warehouse operations and process improvement background. The Transport Manager will play an important role in ensuring compliance with safety requirements and budgetary considerations to guarantee uninterrupted transportation operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily transport operations including shipping & receiving, freight scheduling and route planning.
- Supervise logistics workforce and liaise with warehouse staff to guarantee timely delivery and collection of items.
- Utilise transport management systems (TMS), ERP systems and Warehouse management systems (WMS) to track shipments and optimise routes.
- Manage relationships with third party logistics providers (3PL) to ensure service requirements are met or exceeded.
- Analyse profit & loss accounts relating to transportation costs and create methods for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Follow all health and safety rules and regulations including, but not limited to, forklift operating and warehouse safety rules.
- Lead continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency, eliminate waste and streamline supply chain processes.
- Coordinate shipping & receiving processes including proper paperwork & inventory control.
- Enforce safety regulations and perform frequent training sessions to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in transportation or logistics team management with good leadership skills.
- Sound knowledge of supply chain management, logistics operations and warehouse management systems.
- Experience with 3PL suppliers, shipping/receiving operations, and forklift operation.
- Good knowledge of P&L management in logistics field.
- Strong organisational abilities and ability to efficiently manage many priorities.
- Analytical thinker with capacity to analyse data for continuous improvement projects.
