Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Hotel Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our 55-bedroom heritage hotel in Gloucester. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering outstanding guest experiences, driving revenue and profitability, and leading an engaged, high-performing team across accommodation, food and beverage, and public areas.
The successful candidate will take full operational ownership of the hotel, pub, grill restaurant, drawing room and outdoor terrace, ensuring the hotel’s heritage character is complemented by exceptional service, strong financial control and a safe, compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Guest Experience
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotel, pub, restaurant and all public areas.
- Ensure consistently high standards of service, cleanliness and presentation throughout the property.
- Lead from the front in delivering a memorable and personalised guest experience.
- Actively manage guest feedback, reviews and complaints, ensuring prompt and positive resolution.
- Leadership & Team Engagement
- Recruit, train, motivate and develop a high-performing team across all departments.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and engaged workplace culture.
- Set clear objectives, conduct regular performance reviews and encourage continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective rota planning and team deployment.
- Commercial Performance & Revenue Generation
- Drive revenue across rooms, food and beverage through upselling, promotions and local market opportunities.
- Maximise occupancy, average room rate and spend per head.
- Identify and implement initiatives to grow pub, restaurant and terrace trade.
- Monitor KPIs and take proactive action to improve performance.
- Full responsibility for profit and loss performance.
- Strong focus on cost management, particularly wages, food and beverage margins, and utilities.
- Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and stock controls.
- Ensure purchasing and supplier relationships deliver value and quality.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all health and safety legislation.
- Conduct and maintain risk assessments across the hotel, pub and restaurant.
- Maintain food safety standards and licensing compliance.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and regularly reviewed.
- Property & Standards
- Maintain the heritage character of the building while ensuring it is safe, well-maintained and welcoming.
- Liaise with contractors and suppliers to manage repairs, maintenance and compliance works.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Hotel Manager or senior hospitality manager, ideally within a boutique or heritage hotel.
- Strong background in food and beverage operations.
- Commercially minded with a track record of improving revenue and controlling costs.
- Confident leader with excellent people management and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of health & safety, risk assessments and compliance.
- Hands-on, adaptable and comfortable working in a busy operational environment.
