Learning Disabilities Support Worker – The Conifers, Fordham, Essex
Full‑time permanent position located at The Conifers residential care home in Fordham, near Colchester. UK visa sponsorship available.
Overview
The Conifers is a small, independent residential care home supporting eight individuals with learning disabilities.
The home offers a supportive environment with a large bungalow, heated outdoor pool, and independent flats for some clients.
This role provides caring, reliable, and proactive support to ensure dignity, independence, and quality of life for residents.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care such as bathing, dressing, and daily living tasks.
- Provide companionship, emotional support and enhance quality of life.
- Support mobility, physical activities, appointments and social events.
- Transport clients to appointments, community activities and trips using business vehicles.
- Promote dignity, independence, choice and person‑centred support at all times.
- Use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques and implement behaviour support plans.
- Communicate with health care experts, families and co‑workers to support holistic care.
- Assess and manage risks, ensuring client safety in home and community.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress, well‑being and care provided.
- Participate in learning and continuous education opportunities.
About You
You must be over the age of 18 and hold a full UK driving licence.
This role requires you to work flexible day and waking‑night shifts in line with service needs.
Candidates should ideally have previous experience working with people with learning difficulties, be confident, responsible, independent, and able to use initiative and risk assessment skills.
This position is open to female applicants only owing to the personal care demands and privacy of the persons we serve.
This is an occupational requirement under Part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Successful candidates will be subject to an upgraded DBS check and satisfactory references before work commences.
