Overview
Code Hostel, a vibrant and innovative accommodation establishment in Edinburgh, is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join as a Housekeeping Manager. Our hostel combines modern amenities, a friendly atmosphere, and budget-friendly accommodations for travelers from all walks of life.
Responsibilities
- Housekeeping Team Leadership
- Assist leading the daily operations of the housekeeping department (guest rooms, public areas, back of house) to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Work with the team during core housekeeping times to meet targets and standards, and lead by example to improve ways of working and drive efficiencies.
- Assign tasks, manage schedules, and ensure adequate coverage.
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide training on cleaning techniques, safety protocols, and customer service.
- Communicate with front of house on early check-ins, no shows, late checkouts, and other operational needs.
- Manage weekly, fortnightly, monthly, and quarterly deep cleans.
- Quality Control & Inspection
- Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, common areas, and facilities to ensure they meet cleanliness standards.
- Address issues promptly and take corrective action.
- Establish and update cleaning standards and procedures to align with quality expectations.
- Inventory Management
- Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies, linen, and guest room amenities, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Record and log all lost & found accurately.
- Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with hostel policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements related to cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation.
- Implement proper safety procedures for handling hazardous materials and train staff in safe cleaning practices.
- Conduct periodic safety training and drills to ensure team readiness in emergencies.
- Conduct daily fire checks.
- Guest Satisfaction & Complaint Resolution
- Address guest concerns regarding cleanliness and housekeeping services promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with front desk and other departments to ensure smooth communication and service delivery that enhances guest satisfaction.
- Proactively gather feedback to improve housekeeping services.
- Training & Development
- Encourage skill development, cross-training, and opportunities for career growth within the department.
- Foster a positive and motivated work environment.
- Collaboration with Other Departments
- Work closely with front office and food & beverage teams to coordinate efforts for a seamless guest experience.
- Provide support during breakfast as required.
- Work with Maintenance to ensure repairs are logged and addressed promptly.
- Administration
- Linen and chemical stock counts performed accurately.
- Ensure Logit Compliance.
Front of House
- Welcoming and looking after our guests
- Checking guests in and out
- Upselling Food & Beverage and making coffees on our barista coffee machine
- Bar work, beer, whisky & gin sales
- Kitchen assistance and food service support
- Event running for guests
- Resolving guest comments fully
- Processing card payments
- Selling tours and products to enhance guest experience
- Responding to requests, calls, emails and reviews in a friendly manner
- Reporting tasks such as lost property and Logit entries
Requirements
- Previous experience in the hospitality industry with a focus on guest services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Familiarity with hospitality software and booking systems.
- Enthusiastic about creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for guests.

Schedule
- Standard 40-hour work week.
