The Role
As SENCO, you will play a central role in ensuring that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities receive the support, provision and opportunities they need to thrive. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing the school's SEN provision in line with current legislation and best practice.
- Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
- Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
- Developing and reviewing effective SEN policies, systems and provision.
- Coordinating EHCP processes and working collaboratively with external agencies.
- Supporting teachers to develop inclusive and effective classroom strategies.
- Monitoring pupil progress and evaluating the impact of SEN interventions.
- Promoting a positive, inclusive culture where every pupil is supported to achieve their potential.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have experience working as a SENCO or in a senior SEN leadership role.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) where applicable.
- Have a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEN legislation.
- Have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- Be passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Be confident working with parents, carers, staff and external professionals.
- Be proactive, approachable and committed to making a genuine difference to pupils' lives.
