Destination Education is currently working with a range of welcoming and supportive mainstream primary schools across Walthamstow and the surrounding areas, and we are expecting a variety of exciting 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant opportunities to become available Full time/Part time. For those interested in Day to Day work, we have a lot of Day to Day work currently available across the Walthamstow area.
These roles are ideal for caring, patient, and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil within a mainstream primary school, working closely with the class teacher and SENCo to help them access learning, build confidence, develop independence, and feel fully included within the classroom. Whether you have previous SEN experience or are looking to develop your career within education, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while making a genuine difference to a child's education and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs.
- Help the pupil access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
- Support the pupil's academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Adapt activities and resources to meet the pupil's individual needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
- Build a strong and trusting relationship with the pupil.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider support team.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with children is desirable.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN is advantageous.
- Experience providing 1:1 support would be beneficial.
- A caring, patient, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Reliable, adaptable, and enthusiastic about working in education.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
