We work with one particular SEN School in Marylebone; a setting that is extremely well resourced and very easy to travel to from all corners of London and surrounding counties. The school would like to appoint their next band 7 SALT (Speech and Language Therapist) with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff.

Job Purpose

To provide highly specialist speech, language, communication, and/or swallowing assessment and intervention. A Band 7 SALT is expected to manage a complex caseload, offer clinical expertise, supervise junior staff, support service development, and contribute to evidence-based practice within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties
    • Provide highly specialist assessments for clients with complex communication and/or swallowing needs.
    • Design, deliver, and evaluate individualised therapy plans, using evidence-based approaches.
    • Manage a specialist caseload independently, exercising advanced clinical reasoning.
    • Deliver risk assessments and develop risk management plans.
    • Write high-quality, timely clinical reports, care plans, and documentation.
    • Provide clinical input in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case discussions, and ward rounds.
    • Support clients, families, and carers with tailored advice and training.
  • Service Development & Leadership
    • Lead or contribute to service improvement projects, audits, and research.
    • Develop and implement clinical pathways, protocols, and standards of practice.
    • Provide expert consultation to other professionals and stakeholders.
    • Contribute to strategic planning within the service.
  • Supervision, Training & Teaching
    • Supervise, mentor, and support junior SALTs, assistants, and students.
    • Deliver training to MDT colleagues, educational staff, carers, or external organisations.
    • Support competency development across the team.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Maintain HCPC registration and follow professional standards.
    • Participate in CPD, reflective practice, and advanced skills training.
    • Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of legislation, safeguarding, and clinical guidelines.
    • Ensure high standards of patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Communicate complex and sensitive information clearly to clients, families, and professionals.
    • Work in partnership with health, education, and social care colleagues.
    • Advocate for clients' communication rights and access to services.
