Specialist school | Immediate opportunities | Full-time & part-time

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who wants to work somewhere that genuinely puts children at the centre of everything it does? We are currently recruiting for an excellent specialist school in Witney, supporting children and young people with complex additional needs from Early Years through to age 16.

We are looking to speak with both Primary and Secondary SEN Teaching Assistants who are passionate about helping pupils develop their communication, independence, confidence and ability to enjoy learning.

A SCHOOL WHERE EVERY CHILD MATTERS

This is a specialist environment where individual needs are at the heart of the school day. The school works with pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, alongside communication and interaction, cognition and learning, and sensory and physical needs. Every pupil has an individual EHC plan, with teaching and support carefully adapted around their specific needs.

The school's values are centred around:

  • BELONGING ensuring every pupil feels valued and included.
  • POSSIBILITY believing in what every child can achieve.
  • GROWTH helping pupils develop their skills, independence and confidence.

For a TA, this means your role goes far beyond simply supporting classroom learning. You'll be helping young people to communicate, regulate, develop independence, build confidence and experience success.

A VERY POSITIVE RECENT OFSTED REPORT

The school's latest Ofsted inspection in October 2024 found that it had maintained the standards identified at its previous inspection. Inspectors praised the school's:

  • Vibrant community ethos
  • Positive and nurturing culture
  • Warm, caring relationships between staff and pupils
  • High-quality support and care
  • Curriculum that is carefully tailored to individual needs
  • Excellent provision for personal development
  • Strong focus on communication and independence
  • Extensive trips, visits and enrichment opportunities that help pupils build confidence and experience the wider world.

This is a school where staff clearly get to know their pupils well and where the relationship between TA and pupil can make a huge difference.

PRIMARY & SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working with:

  • PRIMARY-AGED PUPILS Supporting younger children with communication, sensory needs, learning, behaviour, personal development and independence.
  • SECONDARY-AGED PUPILS Helping young people develop their academic, communication, social and life skills as they progress towards adulthood.

Experience with complex SEN, ASD, SLD, communication needs, sensory needs or challenging behaviour would be highly valuable.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for TAs who are:

  • Patient and empathetic
  • Calm and consistent
  • Confident supporting children with complex SEN
  • Able to build genuine relationships with pupils
  • Comfortable working as part of a wider specialist team
  • Passionate about helping children become more independent
  • Resilient, positive and willing to learn

You don't necessarily need to have worked in a specialist school before. If you've developed strong SEN experience in a mainstream primary or secondary school, your experience could transfer extremely well.

EASY ACCESS FROM OXFORDSHIRE

The school's nearest railway station is Finstock, making this an option worth considering for candidates travelling from across Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. If you are looking for a specialist SEN role outside central Oxford, this is a particularly interesting opportunity to consider.

DEVELOP YOUR SEN CAREER

The school is part of The Gallery Trust, a multi-academy trust focused on providing specialist education and support for young people with SEND. You'll be working alongside experienced specialist teachers and support staff in an environment where pupils' individual needs, communication, independence and personal development are taken seriously. This could be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their SEN experience and build a long-term career within specialist education.
