The successful candidate will support project teams, site management, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure works are planned, controlled and delivered safely. You will be visible on site, carrying out inspections, reviewing documentation, supporting safe systems of work, investigating incidents and helping maintain high safety standards across the project.

Previous airside experience is essential. The role requires someone who understands the requirements of working in an airport environment and who can successfully pass the necessary Heathrow airside background, security and compliance checks. This role will suit a practical, site-facing safety professional with experience in construction, M&E, infrastructure, aviation or similarly controlled project environments.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of Designer Group’s health and safety policies, procedures and standards on site.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, safety walks and behavioural observations.
  • Identify risks, unsafe behaviours or non-compliance and work with site teams to close out actions.
  • Support project teams with risk assessments, method statements, permits and safe systems of work.
  • Review RAMS, lifting plans, access arrangements, plant, equipment and task-specific safety documentation.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and site inductions where required.
  • Monitor PPE compliance, housekeeping, access and egress, exclusion zones, temporary works interfaces and general site safety standards.
  • Support incident, accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring reports are completed accurately and corrective actions are followed through.
  • Maintain health and safety records, inspection reports, permits, registers and project documentation.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills and response planning.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction managers, subcontractors, client representatives and airport stakeholders on health and safety matters.
  • Promote a positive safety culture on site, encouraging ownership, accountability and safe behaviours.
  • Support compliance with UK health and safety legislation, Heathrow site requirements, client standards and Designer Group procedures.
  • Advise site management on opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Requirements

We are looking for someone who can bring a practical, site-led approach to health and safety in a live airport construction environment. You should have:

  • Previous experience in an EHS Officer, Health and Safety Officer, HSE Advisor, EHS Advisor or similar site-based role.
  • Previous airside experience is essential.
  • Experience working in construction, M&E, infrastructure, aviation, building services or industrial project environments.
  • The ability to pass Heathrow airside background, security and compliance checks.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
  • Confidence reviewing RAMS, permits, lifting plans, access arrangements and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence site teams in a practical and constructive way.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate safety records and reports.
  • Flexibility to work within the operational requirements of a live airport environment.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • IOSH membership or working towards membership.
  • A relevant qualification in occupational health and safety, construction safety or a related discipline.
  • CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
