Design ID is a specialist civil, structural and infrastructure engineering consultancy delivering high-quality, technically robust solutions across the UK and Ireland. Our Structures portfolio spans residential, commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, modular construction, traditional building structures, and complex multidisciplinary developments.

Due to continued growth in the UK market and an expanding pipeline of structural projects, we are now seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team. This role will contribute to delivering a diverse range of projects, including both traditional construction and modern methods of construction (MMC) / modular systems. Our London offices provide modern, collaborative workspaces designed to support focused engineering work, innovation, and team connection.

This is a technical design role for a Structural Engineer with a minimum of 2+ years experience in UK consultancy, offering exposure to a broad range of building structures projects. You will work closely with Senior and Principal Engineers, taking responsibility for technical design, project coordination and client-facing communication. You will deliver structural designs from concept through detailed design and construction, working across steel, reinforced concrete, timber, masonry and modular systems. The role provides strong opportunities for progression toward Senior Engineer level and professional chartership.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural design for traditional and modular building projects across multiple sectors
  • Undertake analysis and detailed design using Eurocodes and UK National Annexes
  • Prepare, check and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications and design reports
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors and clients to develop integrated design solutions
  • Support project delivery from feasibility and conceptual design through construction
  • Assist with project planning, resourcing and programme development
  • Attend site inspections, surveys and design team meetings
  • Apply knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CDM requirements and QA procedures
  • Contribute to internal technical development, digital tools and design standards
  • Support junior team members through knowledge-sharing and informal mentoring
  • Engage in early-stage technical input for tenders and fee proposals where required

Qualifications

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience in a structural engineering consultancy environment (UK preferred)

Required Skills

  • Experience designing in common structural materials (steel, RC, timber, masonry)
  • Exposure to modular or MMC systems is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong working knowledge of Eurocodes, UK standards and Building Regulations
  • Competent in structural analysis software (e.g., MasterSeries, Tekla Tedds, Robot, ETABS, SCIA, or similar)
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines and work collaboratively
  • Motivated toward chartership with IStructE or ICE (support provided)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality design

If you feel you meet most of the criteria — or bring unique experience in structures, modular systems or specialist design — we’d still love to hear from you. We’re open to shaping the role for the right person and supporting your professional growth.
