As their business continues to expand into new markets, they are strengthening their UK engineering capability and seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Worcester-based team. Role Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of bespoke conveyor and automation systems for both automotive production and modern retail distribution environments. Working closely with project, electrical, and controls teams, you will be responsible for creating innovative, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions that meet exacting performance and safety standards. Experience in automotive materials handling and associated steel structures would be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop materials handling systems including conveyors, automated equipment and other systems that facilitate the movements of materials within the design specification from concept through to final design release.
- Create detailed 3D models, layouts, and production drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
- Prepare technical documentation, including BOMs, specifications, and assembly drawings.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop Functional Design Specifications and ensure alignment with client requirements.
- Provide engineering support during manufacture, installation, and commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and standardisation initiatives within the design process.
Candidate Experience Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in the design of conveyor systems or automation equipment.
- Familiarity with applications in automotive production or intralogistics / retail distribution environments.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing methods.
- Effective communicator with strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- Willingness to travel to client or supplier sites.
