Desian Education are seeking a caring, enthusiastic and committed Early Years Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive primary school in Knowsley. The successful candidate will work within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to support children's learning, development and wellbeing, helping to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, age‑appropriate learning activities in line with the EYFS framework.
- Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and promote progress in communication, language, literacy and numeracy.
- Assist with the preparation and organisation of learning resources and classroom displays.
- Help to observe, assess and record children's progress, feeding back to the teacher and contributing to learning journals and assessments.
- Support children's personal, social and emotional development, encouraging positive behaviour and good relationships.
- Assist with personal care routines where required, including toileting, dressing and mealtimes, in a respectful and sensitive manner.
- Supervise children during playtimes, indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Promote inclusion and support children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo.
- Follow school policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and behaviour management procedures.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience of working with young children, ideally within an EYFS or primary school setting.
- A warm, patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A basic understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualification (e.g. 'Level 2' or 'Level 3' in Childcare, Teaching Assistant or equivalent).
- Experience supporting children with special educational needs or additional needs.
- Knowledge of phonics, early literacy and numeracy programmes.
