Overview

Desian Education is recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a vibrant primary school in St Helens. The position is full‑time within a Key Stage 1 classroom and involves providing 1:1 support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is based inside the mainstream classroom, helping the pupil engage with the curriculum alongside their peers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with ASD within the classroom setting.
  • Adapt learning resources to match the pupil’s specific learning needs.
  • Implement behaviour strategies outlined in the pupil’s individual support plan.
  • Foster emotional regulation and social communication skills during lessons.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to track progress and provide feedback on development.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, specifically ASD, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum and primary school environments.
  • Patient, resilient nature with a nurturing approach to inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication skills to build trust with the pupil and staff.
  • Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
