As part of Nationwide's exciting and growing team of Cloud Platform engineers, you'll have an SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) mindset with the ability to act like a Developer and think like a Systems Operator. We invest in our people to ensure we create multi-functional engineers and retain the skills within the organisation. Our engineers are responsible for the delivery of Cloud technical solutions for assigned missions alongside providing consultancy and support services as required. As part of the Cloud Operations team, we are looking for talented people to help us achieve our goals.

As a core member of the Cloud Platform Operations team, you will be responsible for the reliability, availability and performance of the cloud platforms and services that underpin Nationwide's operations. We are offering training and development within Cloud, specifically around AWS and Terraform which will help you to build Service Management knowledge and experience to ensure incidents are managed within SLAs and changes are implemented successfully, first time.
You will take charge in building and managing scalable, self-healing, globally distributed cloud platforms and also collaborate with architecture, security, engineering teams and the wider Engineering Centre of Excellence to set up best in class cloud platforms and subsequently provide guidance on their consumption. You'll also work with our consumers in the Development and Feature teams to ensure reliability of service.
In addition to this, you'll utilise your experience to proactively seek opportunities to drive efficiency and cost reduction by automating manual and repetitive tasks. You'll also develop features and codified artefacts for platform improvements leveraging automation and infrastructure as code and lead architectural & design with regards to the operational reliability of NBS cloud platforms.
We are seeking an Engineer (Cloud Platform Engineer) with a foundation in Cloud Platforms and a passion for problem-solving. You will have:
- A positive mindset to develop additional skills for cloud-based technologies and have a working understanding of Cloud Fundamentals
- Demonstrable experience as a Cloud Platform Engineer, including handsβon use of Infrastructure as Code and automated scripts via CI/CD pipelines
- Proven skills with coding languages such as BASH and Python
- A good understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles, with all configuration and deployment delivered through tools such as Terraform and Ansible
