The Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and friendly Museum Associate who can work full time on a permanent basis, including weekends. This role offers variety and you will be an advocate for the museum, welcoming visitors, providing information on exhibits, promoting sales and assisting with operations in our gift shop and cafe. You will ensure delivery of complete customer satisfaction and a memorable and enjoyable visit for all guests.
Responsibilities
- Promote and process the sale of entrance tickets to the museum
- Promote the yearly membership and other incentives
- Cash handling, till, PDQ
- Assist guests during the introduction to their visit through distribution of quizzes and other informative information to enhance their experience
- Retail sales and product demonstrations
- Take, prepare and process café orders with regards to food and beverages ensuring at all times consistency of service and excellent visitor care
- Upsell food, beverage and retail products with the aim of maximizing catering and retail income
- Effective communication with all staff to facilitate the efficient running of the business on a daily basis
- Stock reordering and perishable goods replenishment
- Maintain cleanliness of café, outside seating, museum and retail gift areas at all times
- Demonstrate the company values at all times and serve as an ambassador for the Derwent brand
- Restock all display stands, shelves and fridges in the retail shop and catering facility
- Perform any other reasonable task as directed
- Ensure compliance with appropriate health & safety requirements
Qualifications
- Passionate about customer service
- Experience of customer service or visitor-facing roles in retail sales and/or catering is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with the public
- Proactive
- Interest and knowledge in art, history and local area would be beneficial
