Derwen College is a multi award-winning Specialist College, enabling our students to achieve beyond what they and others believe is possible. We have an exciting opportunity for a Functional Skills Teacher to join our team! For this role, you will be required to support staff and learners in Functional Skills, collate, record and track FS information, undertake diagnostic assessments and deliver discrete provision through a proactive approach.

Key Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Keep own knowledge of Functional Skills (FS) up to date through CPD
  • Deliver FS discrete provision
  • Create programmes of work that are innovative, up to date and appropriate to meet learners' individual FS needs
  • Record, track and report on individual learners' progress in FS
  • Offer advice, guidance and support to teaching and learning staff about FS
  • Identify learners with specific FS needs for discrete provision and strategies
  • Support the FS Coordinator in the delivery of FS CPD
  • Develop and share FS resources
  • Undertake diagnostic assessments, write reports and achieve and set appropriate initial FS objectives
  • Prepare learners for FS accreditation where appropriate and through development of underpinning skills
  • Undertake FS accreditation
  • Support and undertake FS competitions/projects
  • Support the FS Coordination in Self-Assessment and strategic improvement of FS
  • Personal Tutor
  • Contribution to cross college groups as required
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested
