In this role, the journalist will take on increasingly complex assignments and major stories, demonstrating a solid understanding of structured products and strong journalistic expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, manage competing priorities effectively and contribute to the continued development of SRP's editorial coverage.
Tasks Include:
- Providing first edits, first thing in the UK morning from our HK Correspondent.
- Potentially assisting with reporting or editing from insights contributors.
- Taking the reins of regular reports particularly at the publication stage.
- Producing higher-quality reporting, including in-depth data analysis.
- Keeping track of weekly Spotlights to ensure the sequence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and gather information on newsworthy events and issues relevant to our audience.
- Conduct interviews with sources and stakeholders to gather background and quotes for articles.
- Write clear, concise, and compelling news articles, ensuring adherence to journalistic standards and ethics.
- Assist in the development of multimedia content, including reports and webinars.
- Collaborate with junior reporters and editors to identify trending topics and develop story ideas.
- Attend press conferences, community events, and other relevant gatherings to cover breaking news and report live.
- Maintain a strong understanding of current events and issues affecting our industry and beyond.
Key Interfaces:
- Keep the director of content regularly informed of market news in the region they are covering and potential stories for commissioning, including via the weekly news meeting.
- Keep the data and editorial teams informed of new structured products and trends and inform analysts of potential contacts that would assist them in their market analysis.
Skills & Experience:
- Some experience writing high quality content for a reputable news organisation.
- An understanding of how financial markets work or a willingness to learn more.
- Interest in business and finance is a must.
- An excellent eye for detail.
- The ability to create imaginative, accurate and compelling news and feature stories.
- The ability to explain technical concepts accurately and engagingly.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable networking.
Desirable:
- Experience creating content for the web and social media platforms.
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.
- Experience of public speaking.
