Our Summer Retail Volunteer places, offer students the opportunity to experience life in a busy charity shop, developing real workplace skills while supporting Derian House Children's Hospice.

Whether you're considering a career in retail, customer service, business or simply want to build your confidence and CV, this opportunity will give you hands on experience in a friendly and supportive team.

Every item sold in our shops helps us continue providing specialist care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions across the North West.

What You'll Be Learning:

  • During your time with us, you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Welcome and assist customers.
  • Help sort and prepare donated items for sale.
  • Steam and present clothing to shop standards.
  • Price stock under supervision.
  • Create attractive shop displays.
  • Restock the shop floor.
  • Learn about Gift Aid and how charity retail operates.
  • Help keep the shop clean, tidy and welcoming.
  • Gain an understanding of customer service within a charity setting.
  • Work alongside our fantastic volunteers and retail team.
  • No previous experience is required - we'll provide all the guidance and support you need.

  • Respectful towards customers, volunteers and staff.

Minimum Age:

Students aged 16 years and over

Time Commitment:

One morning or one afternoon per week throughout the summer holidays (Monday to Saturday, flexible shifts available)

Please Note:

This is an unpaid summer volunteer role, designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the workplace and develop employability skills during the summer holidays. Placements are subject to availability, completion of the relevant application, a successful interview and one satisfactory reference.

We ask all applicants to disclose, in confidence, any unspent criminal convictions in advance of a DBS check

All volunteers are required to wear a uniform, which will be provided free of charge
