Minimum age: 21 years. Our volunteers play a really important part in helping us create a welcoming, supportive environment for the children and families we care for. In this role, you’ll be supporting our hospice nursing team with a range of administrative tasks that help everything run smoothly behind the scenes. Your time and care will make a real difference, ensuring our clinical team can focus on what matters most – providing the very best care and support to every child and family who walks through our doors.

What you'll be doing:

  • Answering telephone calls from families and healthcare professionals in a warm and professional manner.
  • Supporting with pre-admission phone calls to families ahead of respite stays, following guidance.
  • Uploading updates and information to Class Dojo to help keep families and the team connected.
  • Scanning and securely uploading documents to children’s records, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Printing and mailing booking letters.
  • Helping to prepare, print and restock paperwork and forms for the nursing team.
  • Keeping filing systems organised and making sure everything is easy to find and up to date.
  • Providing general administrative support to the hospice nursing team, helping things run smoothly day to day.

What you'll need:

  • Friendly and approachable, with a professional and caring manner.
  • Confident in communicating, both spoken and written.
  • Proven experience with computers and IT systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye to detail.
  • Able to show empathy and understanding when speaking with our families on the telephone.
  • An understanding of the importance of handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Able to provide a regular weekly commitment.
  • Happy to work independently, and able to use their initiative.

Time commitment: A number of volunteer positions are available to cover a few hours per day, Monday to Friday (office hours).

Training: All appointed volunteers must complete a mandatory two-day induction/training programme prior to starting.

Please note: The minimum age for volunteering in this role is 21 years. We ask all applicants to disclose, in confidence, any unspent criminal convictions in advance of a DBS check. All volunteers are required to wear a uniform, which will be provided free of charge.
