As part of the care team at Derian House Children’s Hospice, you’ll be part of something truly special, helping ensure no child or family faces life’s hardest moments alone. We care for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions from across the Northwest, supporting families to make the most of every precious moment.

Are you a compassionate Clinical Support Worker looking for a unique role that’s professionally rewarding and makes a real difference? Whether you’re already working in the community or looking to bring your transferable care skills into children’s community palliative care, we’d love to hear from you. Join our Derian at Home team and help deliver high-quality, individualised care to children and young people with complex and palliative care needs across the community.

While end of life care is a core part of what we do, many of our children and young people are supported by Derian House for many years before this, and that time is used to provide fun, comfort and lasting memories for the whole family. Our team is small, skilled and deeply committed, and you’ll play a vital part in delivering exceptional care, predominantly out in the community; undertaking respite visits, supporting symptom management and memory-making amongst many other tasks, but also working in-house in our hospice in Chorley.

It is key that you know if you apply for this role you will most of the time likely to be working autonomously, supported by a multi-disciplinary team to make decisions to best support families. As this is a role where you will be supporting families outside of the hospice, there will be many occasions where you are working alone, and need to be comfortable with this, with our systems and processes in place to make sure you are safe.

As our service grows and our 3–5 year plan takes shape we’re creating new opportunities for nurses who want to develop and thrive. We are investing more in community and rotational roles that work across our in-hospice and community services, giving you the chance to build breadth of experience in a genuinely varied role. We invest in our people, offering access to an in-house clinical education team, a dedicated clinical skills lab, and ongoing professional development tailored to your aspirations. We also welcome applications from nurses with non-traditional routes into practice, including those with learning disability qualifications and those from non-paediatric backgrounds who have the right transferable experience.

We will be holding an informal opening evening planned for the 4th August 4.00 – 8.00 pm and this will be an opportunity to have a look around, meet staff and find out a little more about Derian House. If you wish to register your interest, please contact hr@derianhouse.co.uk.

If you want to make a real difference that values compassion, expertise and continuous learning — Derian House might be where you belong but don’t delay with submitting your application, we reserve the right to close this advert once we have received enough applications. If you would like any further information regarding the role, please contact Victoria.robinson@derianhouse.co.uk.

We offer 35 days holidays per year, including bank holidays and increasing with length of service. Continuation of NHS Pension scheme (if eligible) or option to join Derian House Contributory Pension Scheme. Payment of professional NMC registration fees. Retail discounts through Blue Light card and Benefits platform. Free onsite parking. Subsidised meals in our diner. Flexible working in terms of part-time opportunities. Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time). Weekend, nights and evening work will be required. Part-time hours will also be considered.

Selection and Assessment process: Depending on the volume of applications there may be an initial preliminary 20-minute discussion, held virtually (MS Teams), to help sift candidates we wish to progress. The formal process for those invited, will be an onsite face to face assessment and interview.

Registered Charity Number 1005165. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace and encourage applications from all qualified candidates, irrespective of any protected characteristics. Successful appointments will be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring check.
