Job overview: DSFS are looking to attract an additional Security Operative on a 42hr contract to join the current security team based at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Security services are provided 24/7 to the Trust and successful candidates would be expected to be flexible to ensure full service cover is provided to the hospital. Previous applicants need not apply. Please note that a current SIA licence Frontline is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job:

  • Keeping a record of all duties carried out each shift in a personal log.
  • Assist with safe operation during take-off and landing of Air Ambulance and security of same whilst on ground.
  • Monitor the access control systems.
  • Maintaining a highly visible deterrent by patrolling the hospital on foot and using CRH vehicle.
  • Respond to any security/fire related incidents on CRH sites including but not limited to calls for assistance from Ward/Department staff to deal with such duties as locked areas, missing patients, problems with patients/visitors and incidents of violence and aggression.
  • Use of restraint techniques if/when trained to do so.
  • Responding to baby tagging alarms on all relevant wards.
  • Carry out Control room duties including monitoring of CCTV and providing cover for Control Room staff.
  • Unlocking and locking of departments and taking off and resetting alarms as required.

Person specification:

Qualifications and Training:
  • Knowledge of the Security or Customer Service industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of IT systems including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of security systems, such as CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and car parking systems.
  • GCSE’s grade C or above in English and Maths.
  • Valid SIA licence in Frontline.
  • A recognised qualification in security and/or physical intervention.
  • Excellent knowledge or qualifications in Customer Service and Health & Safety.
Experience:
  • Experience of working within a security team or customer focused service.
  • Experienced in dealing with challenging behaviour including violent and aggressive situations.
  • Previous experience working within the NHS.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge and experience of security systems and their operation.
  • Good knowledge of security environment, the potential risks, threats and actions required to manage and reduce risks.
  • Ability to liaise and communicate clearly with patients, staff, visitors and contractors.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer care.
  • Experienced in dealing with emergency situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and respond appropriately to alarms, evacuations, incidents and emergency whilst following security procedures and ensuring safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in communicating clearly with patients, visitors and NHS Staff.
Personal Attributes:
  • To assess situations quickly, using appropriate action to defuse a situation and provide effective solutions.
  • Ability to maintain calm and control in difficult situations, minimising panic in others.
  • Experience in monitoring and proactively demonstrating security procedures are being adhered to by staff, contractors and visitors in order to ensure the premises and staff are safe.
  • To be able to work under own initiative as well as following written and verbal instructions.
