Candidates must possess the necessary right to work authorisation to enable them to work for Chesterfield Borough Council. Regrettably, we are unable to provide sponsorship or assume sponsorship of an employment visa at this juncture.

The bereavement services team based at Chesterfield and District Crematorium is seeking a talented and motivated apprentice to join our esteemed bereavement services team to assist in the grounds maintenance of the Crematorium and four Cemeteries.

This role is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in horticulture, gardening and landscape work. Based at Chesterfield and District Crematorium but carrying out most of your work within the Council’s four Cemeteries, you will assist in maintaining these important places – keeping the burial grounds clean, tidy and well maintained for those visiting.

You will also spend some time working within the tranquil, award‑winning grounds of the Crematorium. Opportunities will also be available to learn about other interesting aspects of the service. We aim to deliver a professional and caring service through our competent trained staff, and it is important that funerals are conducted in dignified and tidy surroundings.

This new and exciting apprenticeship opportunity is a great way to gain work experience while earning money at the same time and developing your skill set. You will be doing valuable work while working towards a recognised qualification.

If you have completed another apprenticeship or qualification, it must be at a lower level or in a different subject area to the apprenticeship you are applying for. If you are successful in your application, you must not be in receipt of or attending any other funded training or signed to another apprenticeship.

You will be supervised and given support in working towards your goals and qualification, with up to one day a week set aside for learning. Start and finish times will vary depending on working within the Cemeteries or Crematorium but will be either 06:00 – 14:30 or 08:00 – 16:00 in line with local rota arrangements.

If you have a keen interest in working outdoors, doing rewarding work with fantastic opportunities to learn new skills; then look no further and apply now!
