Chesterfield offers a vibrant community with excellent transport links, situated near the Peak District National Park.
We seek an experienced lawyer to provide legal advice and support on contentious and regulatory matters, especially relating to planning, licensing, and appeals. Knowledge of committee procedures and local government law is essential, including planning law, alcohol and taxi licensing, and housing law.
The role may also involve civil and criminal litigation, drafting, hearings, and advocacy on behalf of the council.
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow) authorized to work in the UK
- Organized, efficient, motivated, and able to work under pressure
- Team player with a proactive approach
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively with elected members, senior staff, and stakeholders
The role is 32 hours per week, adaptable over four or five days. The council offers hybrid working with office and remote options, with attendance required for committee meetings and court hearings.
