We are looking for highly motivated Heavy Goods Vehicle/ Light Goods Vehicle Mechanics to join our County Transport teams who support the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of motor vehicles including motor cars, minibuses, light goods vehicles, Heavy Goods Vehicles, trailers, and engineering plant.
We are looking to recruit into two of our workshops, based in Chesterfield and Derby.

Monday to Thursday 8.00am 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am 3.30pm.

HGV / LGV Motor Mechanic
The standard working hours are:
Monday to Thursday 8.30am 4.30pm and Friday 8.30am 4.00pm.

Starting salaries are negotiable within the bandingbased on experience and qualifications. 2025/26 Pay award pending

You will need to besuitablyexperienced, hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) vocational qualification in Heavy Goods Vehicle maintenance and repair operations, and have a valid full Driving Licence with a minimum of category B. Having a category C HGV licence and/or being a qualified MOT tester in Class 4, 5, and 7 would be highly advantageous for this role, but is not essential as training would be considered for the right candidate.

There are opportunities to join the winter standby rota from November to April (dependant on weather forecasts) which carries an additionalretainer payment of£344 per weekandovertime paymentsif called out. Use of a council vehicle is provided for travel to and from home during rota standby periods (this can be discussed further at in interview).

We operate a modern fleet of vehicles, that we preventively maintain to a very high standard with an emphasis on Quality over Quantity. The suitable applicant will be Workshop based but may on occasion be required to attend vehicles at the roadside or at our customers depots.

The successful candidate will be issued with a personal tool kit along with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and branded workwear. The Workshop also has its own specialist tools and up to date vehicle diagnostic equipment

Due to the nature of the work undertaken, the successful candidate will be required to undertake and pass a police security NPPV2 vetting check.
