We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Service Manager to join our County Transport team in the Vehicle Workshop who support the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of motor vehicles including motor cars, minibuses, light goods vehicles, Heavy Goods Vehicles, trailers and engineering plant. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will form part of the workshop leadership team and be required to assist in the day to day management of the workshop, this would include leading a team of workshop technical staff, coordinating job assignment and workflow and making technical decisions.

This role is primarily office based but includes the need to support the workloads of vehicle mechanics (HGV and LGV), Parts Officer and Drivers as required. With this in mind you will need to hold a minimum of NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) vocational qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair operations, preferably with a Heavy Goods vehicle bias and a valid full Driving Licence with a minimum of category B. Experience of managing a heavy goods vehicle workshop, a category C driving licence and being a DVSA MOT tester in Class 4, 5 and 7 would be high preferential to this role.

We operate a modern fleet of vehicles, that we preventively maintain to a very high standard with an emphasis on Quality over Quantity. The suitable applicant will be Workshop based but may on occasion be required to attend vehicles at the roadside or at our customers' depots. The successful candidate will have access to a standard tool kit along with Personal issued Protective Equipment (PPE) and branded workwear. The Workshop also has its own specialist tools and up to date vehicle diagnostic equipment.

The role will be based at our brand-new bespoke Derby Workshop which is located on the outskirts of the City Centre and is for a fixed 37 hour working week. The standard working hours are Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 4.30pm and Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm, however some overtime may be available in line with the business need. Starting salaries are negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

There are opportunities to join an out of hours standby rota which carries an additional retainer payment of £344 per week and overtime payments if called (this can be discussed further at interview).
