A Typical Work Day May Include:
- Oversee operation of power drawn pumps and related machinery.
- Ensure daily check of operational gauges.
- Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process adjustment requirements.
- Oversee water meter reading and record volume used by customers for billing.
- Sample and analyze water, and/or draw samples to be sent to KDHE to ensure water quality and compliance with applicable drinking water standards.
- Report results to the appropriate parties.
- Operate multiple computer applications including a utility billing software, digital form software, SCADA system, and radio read software.
- Operate distribution and collection system equipment, including backhoe, dump truck, shoring equipment, hydro excavation unit, tapping machines, locating equipment, jet truck, combo truck, televising equipment, and easement machines.
- Oversee locating, inspecting, rehabilitating, and raising vaults, meter pits and manholes.
- Cross-train and fill in as needed to assist in water, wastewater, or stormwater operations.
- Respond to emergency calls for possible distribution, collection, or operation system problems.
- Locate and repair water leaks, and maintain water mains, pumping facilities, valves, water storage facilities, and main-to-meter service lines.
- Coordinate work assignments for subordinate personnel.
- Provide necessary training for division personnel regarding the usage of equipment and proper methods of completing utility tasks.
- Prepare and maintain proper records, reports, and documents in an organized manner.
What You Will Need:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of water operations or distribution systems experience.
- Valid Kansas driver’s license required, and driving record must meet commercial liability insurance requirements.
- Valid Kansas commercial driver’s license, required within six months of employment.
- Class II KDHE Wastewater or Water Operator certification.
- Must be able to obtain KDHE Class III in Wastewater or Water within one year of hire date.
What Will Put You Ahead:
- Three years supervisory experience.
- Two years of heavy equipment operation experience.
- Extensive knowledge of water distribution and operations systems.
- Extensive knowledge of wastewater collection and operation systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and make minor repairs.
- Class III KDHE Wastewater or Water Operator certification.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanics, wastewater/water testing equipment, wastewater/water plant maintenance and operation, and minor electrical repairs.
- General knowledge of computers with the ability to operate and comprehend utility billing software, digital forms software, SCADA system, and radio read software.
