Derby Grammar School is seeking an enthusiastic, talented and inspirational Teacher of Humanities with a specialism in Religious Studies to join our Senior School team from August 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher to play a key role within a thriving Humanities department, teaching Religious Studies from Key Stage 3 to A Level, while also contributing to the teaching of Geography at Key Stage 3. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

About the School

Derby Grammar School is a successful all-through independent school educating pupils from Reception to Sixth Form. All pupils study Religious Studies in Years 7 to 9, with many choosing to continue the subject at GCSE.   • Teach Religious Studies across Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level.
  • Contribute to the teaching of Geography at Key Stage 3.
  • Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress effectively.
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour, effort and academic standards.
  • Contribute to departmental development, curriculum planning and wider school initiatives.
  • Participate fully in parents' evenings, school events, enrichment activities and the wider life of the school.
  • Support the school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.

We are looking for a teacher who has:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience of teaching Religious Studies at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, or the ability to do so successfully as an ECT.
  • Excellent classroom teaching skills and the ability to inspire pupils to achieve their best.
  • A passion for Religious Studies and a commitment to educational excellence.
  • A willingness to contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Evidence of strong pupil progress and attainment outcomes.
  • Knowledge of current educational research and developments in teaching and learning.
