Derby College Group (DCG) are seeking an experienced and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our Land based department. This is an exciting opportunity to support teaching and learning in a dynamic vocational area, helping students with SEND develop the skills and knowledge they need for success in the construction industry. You will be based at our iconic Broomfield Hall campus.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the educational journey of post-16 vocational learners. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), you will play a key part in supporting high-quality teaching and learning by working collaboratively with teaching staff to boost student progress, engagement, and confidence. You will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that all students—particularly those with Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)—receive tailored support to achieve their full potential. This position is ideal for someone passionate about education and committed to empowering learners to succeed in both their studies and future careers.

About You

You will bring a strong understanding of how to support both educational and personal development, alongside the ability to apply a range of assessment methods to meet diverse learner needs. Collaborative and adaptable, you can work effectively within a team and use creative strategies to engage students who may be disengaged from education. Your experience with post-16 learners and knowledge of vocational trades will be key to supporting progress. You will also demonstrate an awareness of equality and diversity legislation, current approaches to specific learning difficulties and disabilities, and the SEND reforms underpinning Education, Health and Care Plans.

Essential qualifications include Level 2 or above in English and Maths, a Level 3 vocational qualification in a Land based subject, and a Level 4 HLTA qualification (or willingness to work towards this). Desirable qualifications such as First Aid and Mental Health First Aid would be an advantage.
