Derby College Group (DCG) is recruiting a Teacher of Equine (Maternity Cover) to join our team at the Broomfield Hall campus. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our FE and HE programmes, with a sole focus on delivering riding lessons and practical stable management planning, delivery and assessment. This position is a maternity cover until August 2027.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the planning, resourcing, and delivery of high‑quality teaching and assessment, focusing on delivering riding lessons and practical stable management such as health, behaviour and groundwork.
- Responsible for all FE and HE riding lessons and internal quality assurance, actively supporting student progress and achievement.
- Set and review academic targets, monitor performance, and provide appropriate pastoral support to students.
- Play an active role in course‑related trips and visits, student recruitment activities, open days, and information evenings.
- Support student work experience on the college yard as part of their programme, ensuring that all college and awarding body requirements and standards are consistently met.
About you
The successful candidate will have proven experience in the equine industry and be able to provide outstanding support to students. You will be flexible, self‑motivated, and committed to student achievement and quality. You will have a strong background in coaching riders and horse welfare, including groundwork, training and behaviour, and be able to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Being a qualified BHS Stage 3 Coach (or equivalent) is essential, alongside up‑to‑date industry CPD and experience. Additional experience teaching within a further or higher education environment would be beneficial.
