The Senior Technical Assistant sits within the Council's Parking Casework Team and is responsible for the full administration of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) — from issuing statutory notices and tracing vehicle owners via the DVLA, through to handling challenges, appeals, and preparing evidence for the Traffic Penalty Tribunal. The postholder acts as a key point of contact for parking-related enquiries and complaints, delivering service in line with the Council's Customer Care Code.
If you have a great eye for detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, the role of the Senior Technical Assistant may be the role for you.
The Opportunity:
In the role of Senior Technical Assistant, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
- This role is the operational backbone of the Council's parking enforcement service.
- You'll handle Penalty Charge Notices from start to finish — tracing keepers via the DVLA, issuing statutory notices, and dealing with challenges and appeals up to Tribunal level — while also fielding parking enquiries and complaints directly from the public.
- Day to day involves a mix of casework, inbox and post management, and monitoring parking income for errors or discrepancies.
- It's a role that blends legally-precise administration with genuine customer service, so accuracy, resilience, and clear communication matter as much as technical know-how.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:
- At least 12 months' experience dealing directly with customers
- At least 1 year's experience using computer-based systems
- Clear communication with customers, both face-to-face and by phone
- Ability to write concise responses to customers
- Ability to handle challenging situations
- Able to accurately follow defined procedures with minimal supervision
- Calm, polite, and patient manner
