We are a super friendly and supportive team of Educational Psychologists working in Derby City. We work closely and collaboratively with specialist teachers, advisors, education officers and early years practitioners to bring a psychological perspective to understanding children and young people, our communities and schools. We have a positive work culture and enjoy good relationships with other LA teams and schools and settings.

We are delighted to be advertising for two new Senior Educational Psychologists to join our management team. We are increasing the number of Assistant Educational Psychologists within the service and we would love for you to join us to support our Assistant EPs and provide leadership and support for the service.

As a service we are moving towards providing support to clusters of schools and will be part of the new experts at hand approach. If you join us now you can help to develop our new offer and support our EPs and Assistant EPs to deliver it.

We are looking for innovative and experienced educational psychologists who enjoy multi-agency working.

You would be expected to be able to carry out in-person visits to schools, homes and settings in Derby and also attend in-person meetings and training but some tasks lend themselves to home working and some meetings are online. If you prefer working from an office we have dedicated desks in the Council House. The Council House interior received a national award from the British Council for Offices and includes large welcoming public spaces, the council chamber, a café, bookable meeting rooms with video conferencing technology, kitchens, break-out areas and office space.

Derby City council offers genuine flexible working to support a healthy work-life balance and as a LA employee you will have access to CPD and supervision.

Derby is a multi-cultural city with a diverse population. We hope you will consider joining us.

Some tips for your application 🫡

Show Off Your Credentials:When applying for a physician role, make sure to highlight your medical qualifications and any special certifications you have. We want to see your medical degree, residency training, and any additional certifications that set you apart, like specialised training in paediatrics or geriatrics. Don’t leave out those all-important letters after your name!

Tailor Your CV to Medicine:Your CV should reflect your experience and skills as a doctor. Be specific about your clinical rotations, medical practice, and any research work you've done – we love seeing quantifiable impacts, so mention how you've improved patient care or led successful treatment plans.

Personal stories about transformative experiences—like a memorable patient encounter or a moment that defined your career path—can really make you shine. Remember, we're looking for someone who genuinely cares about their patients!

Demonstrate Continuous Learning:In the medical field, showcasing your commitment to continuous learning is essential. Mention any recent courses, workshops, or conferences you’ve attended, and highlight your willingness to stay updated on medical advancements. This shows us that you’re not just a physician; you're a lifelong learner, ready to adapt and grow.
