You are someone with extensive experience in managing challenging situations and resolving conflicts, with a focus on ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Your background may be in education or another area, as long as you possess the skills to negotiate resolutions and manage disputes. You are holistic and reflective, able to work with various individuals and organizations, with a steadfast commitment to ensuring children and young people receive the right support promptly. You have a solid understanding of high-level compliance and regulatory frameworks, particularly relating to SEND, and employ these with competence and care. We are open to applicants from non-traditional backgrounds and offer training and development to the right candidates.

What the Job Involves

This role involves working closely with families, children, and young people through forums such as mediation and resolution meetings to address concerns and mediate positive outcomes. You will prepare chronologies and paperwork, arrange conferences, chair meetings, and liaise with legal services related to First Tier Tribunals and Appeals, supporting the Local Authority's cases in legal environments. Ensure timely documentation distribution for SEN appeals, attend resolution meetings, and negotiate changes to EHC plans abiding statutory timescales. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to streamline processes, resolve disputes in line with co-production principles, and reduce tribunal counts. Handle complaints as part of the corporate process and engage with educational institutions to foster awareness of SEND issues. Further, attend panel meetings, take part in implementing legislative reforms, ensure database accuracy, and improve customer experiences while embracing Derby City Council’s corporate values of boldness, strength, care, and teamwork.
