Responsibilities
The role is varied, the majority of the time you will be out and about undertaking visible proactive patrols, engaging and working with communities as well as attending partnership and public meetings. You may be required to work evenings and weekends, as and when the job requires, however, we will be looking to you to shape your working times to enable you to best respond to the needs of your city. The Public Protection Officers provide a vital role within the community Safety Team leading on tackling environmental crime and ASB which includes undertaking enforcement work, for example, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices; Community Protection Warnings and Notices; and enforcing Public Space Protection Orders throughout the city.
Qualifications
- A professional calm and positive manner
- An ability to be sensitive but remain objective
- Previous experience of undertaking enforcement work and/or knowledge of relevant legislation to tackle Environmental Crime and ASB, but not essential for the right applicant
- Excellent people skills including the ability to influence, negotiate and challenge, whilst also nurturing and maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of people
- Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence
- A flexible and task-oriented approach
- The confidence to tackle inappropriate behaviour
- The ability to work in a team, as well as under your own initiative
- The skills and awareness to engage and interact with diverse communities
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately record information
- An understanding of the confidential nature of your work
