Our Public Protection Officers play a vital role within the community Safety Team, leading on tackling environmental crime and antisocial behaviour. Key duties include issuing Fixed Penalty Notices, Community Protection Warnings, enforcing Public Space Protection Orders, and conducting visible proactive patrols. Officers build relationships with communities, businesses, community groups and other statutory services, attending partnership and public meetings, and working collaboratively to ensure the city’s streets, parks and open spaces remain safe and welcoming.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional calm and positive manner
  • Ability to be sensitive but remain objective
  • Previous experience of undertaking enforcement work and/or knowledge of relevant legislation to tackle environmental crime and antisocial behaviour (not essential for the right applicant)
  • Excellent people skills, including influencing, negotiating and challenging, while nurturing and maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of people
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible, task‑oriented approach
  • Confidence to tackle inappropriate behaviour
  • Teamworking ability, as well as initiative
  • Skills and awareness to engage and interact with diverse communities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately record information
  • Understanding of the confidential nature of the work
  • Commitment to fully engage in training and learning opportunities required for the role
