Are you organised, proactive and looking for a varied role at the heart of local democracy?
Derby City Council is seeking a Councillor and Civic Support Officer to join the Councillor and Civic Support Team. This is a unique opportunity to support elected Members in carrying out their democratic responsibilities whilst helping deliver the Mayor's civic programme and some of the City's most significant ceremonial events.
The role includes providing day-to-day support to Councillors, maintaining accurate records, supporting service improvement and digital projects, and assisting with the planning and delivery of civic events.
You'll help organise a wide range of prestigious occasions, including Remembrance Sunday, Civic Receptions and Royal and VIP visits, working closely with Councillors, senior officers, partner organisations and community groups.
We're looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, strong IT skills and a high level of political nous. Experience of working in local government or a political environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
The Councillor and Civic Support Team forms part of the Democracy Service, which also supports the Council's decision-making processes and the delivery of elections. You may have the opportunity to support these wider functions when required.
The role requires occasional evening and weekend working to support Council meetings and civic events.
In return, we offer flexible and hybrid working, generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and excellent learning and development opportunities.
We are a fair and inclusive employer and welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. We recruit for diversity and value difference. As many of our roles can now be home-based, we are able to offer more opportunities for people who need this facility.
We feel it is essential that we recruit a talented workforce that is as diverse as the community we work for.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion: We are a Disability Confident Leader. If you are a disabled person, you have the choice to apply under our Guaranteed Interview Scheme so long as you demonstrate that you meet the essential requirements for the job.
We strongly believe in social understanding of disability and for us it's all about removing barriers to equality.
