We're looking for an LCV Technician to join our friendly, professional and highly skilled Fleet Services team. No two days are the same as you'll work on a diverse fleet ranging from car-derived vans and light commercial vehicles to minibuses, pathway sweepers and small plant equipment.

If you would like to broaden your skills, we will fully fund your training to become an HGV Technician, including gaining your HGV Category C driving licence. You will also receive approved manufacturer and specialist vehicle technician training. There are also excellent opportunities to progress into supervisory, management and Fleet Management roles through the Councils succession planning programme.

Additional payments: Looking to earn more than the basic salary? As an LCV Technician you will have opportunities to increase your earnings through:

  • Standby/on-call rota - minimum of 36 standby shifts per year, paid at £34.50 per shift.
  • Call-out overtime - paid at time and a quarter, and at double time on bank holidays.
  • Additional overtime - overtime outside of standby and call-outs is paid at time and a quarter, subject to service needs and while vacancies remain.

The Opportunity: As an LCV Technician, you'll become part of a dedicated workshop team responsible for maintaining a wide range of Light Commercial Vehicles and associated equipment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing Light Commercial Vehicles.
  • Carrying out diagnostics and fault finding.
  • Repairing electrical and hydraulic systems where required.
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, compliance and vehicle safety.
  • Helping to ensure the Council's essential fleet remains safe, reliable and available for service.

About You: To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • City & Guilds Levels 1, 2 and 3 (or equivalent NVQ) in Light Commercial Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing Light Commercial Vehicles.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • A willingness to participate in the out-of-hours standby rota.
  • Experience working on tippers, tail lifts, hydraulic systems or specialist fleet equipment would be advantageous but isn't essential, as training can be provided.
