We’re looking for a confident, people focused manager to lead our Family Learning offer in Derby. You’ll shape a practical, accessible curriculum for parents and carers, support tutors, and build strong links with schools and community partners. You’ll oversee planning, quality, safeguarding and learner experience, making sure programmes are high impact, inclusive and aligned with service priorities. If you’re motivated by purposeful work and want to make a real difference to families across the city, this role is a strong next step.

The Opportunity

In the role of Adult Learning Manager, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact: Family Learning in Derby is growing fast — and we want someone who’s excited by the chance to shape something meaningful. This is a role where you see the impact of your work every single week. Parents gaining confidence. Families learning together. Communities feeling stronger because of what your team delivers. As our Family Learning Adult Learning Manager, you’ll lead a small, committed team who care deeply about making learning accessible and welcoming. You’ll build partnerships with schools and community organisations who genuinely value what we do. You’ll design programmes that feel practical, warm and life changing — not corporate or complicated. You’ll have the freedom to innovate, the support to lead well, and the backing of a service that believes in doing things properly: strong safeguarding, high quality teaching, and a culture where staff feel trusted and valued. If you want a role with purpose, influence and visible impact — and you want to join a service where people enjoy working together — this is a great place to be.

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:

  • Experience leading adult learning or family learning — you understand how to design programmes that feel welcoming, practical and high impact.
  • Strong people management skills — you can support tutors, build trust, and set clear expectations.
  • Confidence working with schools and community partners — you know how to build relationships that open doors for families.
  • A solid grasp of safeguarding — you’re comfortable making safe, defensible decisions.
  • The ability to use data intelligently — you can spot what’s working, what isn’t, and where to improve.
  • Experience assuring teaching quality — you know what good looks like and how to help tutors get there.
  • Clear, confident communication skills — you can represent the service well and keep people informed.
  • A values driven approach — you care about inclusion, accessibility and doing the right thing for families.
