As a Business Director (Media) at DEPT, you are the strategic and commercial lead for some of our largest media services clients. You are responsible for the performance and growth of full-funnel media channel services, including Programmatic, Paid Search, and Paid Social. You will act as the senior partner to our clients, ensuring their media spend is optimised for maximum business impact while leading a high-performing team of channel specialists to deliver best-in-class execution.
Business Directors are expected to be able to develop, negotiate, and manage scopes of work as well as support in leading new business proposals and pitches.
What You’ll Do
- Client Partnership: Build and maintain strong, long‑lasting client relationships, acting as an indispensable, trusted strategic partner, and primary point of contact for global accounts. This involves deeply understanding their organization structure and stakeholders, business, market, and future growth levers, translating DEPT’s capabilities into client growth opportunities across brand, performance, data, and experience, anticipating client needs, proactively inventing solutions, and seamlessly bridging marketing and technology for measurable impact.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with clients (including c-level) to understand their business objectives and develop growth hypotheses that deliver business impact. In turn, connect our internal capabilities, strategically leading and overseeing multi‑service and multi‑market growth initiatives in support of clients business – demonstrating agility in converting opportunity into delivery, and fostering strong internal alignment to deliver new value.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee the operational success of the global account and its key relationships, owning growth, profitability, and long‑term vision. This includes setting clear growth, margin, and retention goals, building annual growth plans with quantifiable targets, fostering accountability, and balancing top‑line expansion with operational excellence.
- Business Development: Demonstrate a strong track record of commercial impact, driving client growth, new service adoption, and revenue expansion. This includes identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, extending our relationships by cross and upselling our services and capabilities (+1 Programme).
- Solution Delivery: Work cross‑functionally, cross‑business unit and cross‑regionally to ensure the seamless delivery of integrated solutions.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze client performance, providing regular reports and insights to demonstrate value and identify areas for optimization.
- Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscapes, and technological advancements to inform client strategies and identify new opportunities.
- Commercial Collaboration: Lead contract negotiations and renewals, ensuring mutually beneficial agreements.
What We Are Looking For
- Extensive prior agency experience
- Deep understanding of paid media channels
- Experience managing complex campaigns and retainers
- Experience in leading a high‑volume, multi‑service retainer(s) for brands/clients
- Experience leading, motivating, and coaching a team
- Experience inspiring, and able to create a proactive and energized team culture
- Must have strong delegation skills with the ability to coordinate activities between multiple projects without directly managing them
- Ability to communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences
- Ability to view the big picture, beyond your immediate role or department, and align projects with company strategy, values & goals
- Ability to solve problems through collecting relevant information for assessment, understanding solutions & consequences in order to choose a course of action
- Ability to connect each project to the business world, thinking through effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency within all interdisciplinary projects
- Strong client relationship management skills, including experience working directly with directors, VPs, and C‑level clients on strategy development
