Depop is hiring a Senior Web Engineer to join the Demand product pillar. This team focuses on attracting and activating users through high-performing, flawless buying experiences on the website. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data and other specialists to shape experiments and own the delivery of user-facing features that directly impact conversion, engagement, and trust at scale. Alongside product development, you will contribute to broader engineering efforts that shape how we build at Depop. From accelerating development, to streamlining processes and improving developer experience, you will use modern technologies, such as AI and LLMs, to advance how we build and ship software. This role combines deep engineering expertise, product thinking, and technical leadership.
What You’ll Do
- Lead technical design and delivery of sophisticated web initiatives that impact millions of daily users
- Own projects end-to-end: solution design, implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Build performant, accessible, and resilient user experiences
- Evolve our APIs to support scalable product development
- Drive improvements to our design system and frontend architecture
- Shape and evolve engineering workflows, standards and industry best practices
- Maintain high standards for reliability, performance and operational excellence
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on code quality, testing, and engineering standards
What You’ll Bring
- Strong expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Experience building production-scale applications with modern React.js
- Experience designing RESTful APIs with Node.js
- Proven understanding of web fundamentals: rendering, performance optimization, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility
- Experience writing automated tests using modern JS testing frameworks
- Owning architectural decisions, making trade-offs between performance, maintainability and scalability
Bonus Points
- Experience with Next.js App Router (including server components and SSR strategies)
- Experience in experimentation-driven environments (A/B testing, feature flags)
- Experience working in marketplace or e-commerce environments
- Experience using observability and monitoring tools
- Knowledge of CI/CD and GitHub Actions
