Role UK‑based Engineering Manager to lead one of our two Payments squads.
You’ll navigate payments across wallet balances, re‑spend, withdrawals, refunds, seller onboarding, and tax capture, ensuring compliance across markets and making architectural decisions that shape our payment flows.
As Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a cross‑functional team of 3–7 engineers (BE and i OS), guide product, collaborate with marketing, ops, analytics, and engineering, and drive a culture of high performance.
You’ll manage day‑to‑day operations, create and execute the roadmap, and champion inclusive practices.
Responsibilities Deliver value and drive results: ensure high‑quality solutions that meet business needs, focusing on delivery and measurable impact.
Lead and support your team: manage a cross‑functional team, staying hands‑on while enabling team success.
Foster growth and feedback: hold regular 1:1s, provide coaching, and support career development.
Collaborate across functions: align with marketing, ops, analytics, engineering, and product on priorities.
Build an inclusive culture: advocate team health, inclusion, and diversity to foster learning.
Qualifications Proven track record as an Engineering Manager of growing high‑performing teams and processes.
Strong backend engineering background (preferably JVM) with technical expertise to lead from a technical perspective.
Experience in fulfilment or payments and integration with vendors such as Stripe and Pay Pal.
Ability to lead across full‑stack, bridging BE and FE to uphold high engineering standards.
Strong sense of ownership and track record of delivery, tackling complex problems and delivering quality features.
Data‑driven decision making, simplicity and bias toward delivery, even in ambiguity.
Stakeholder management skills, collaboration with cross‑disciplinary stakeholders to achieve results.
Ability to drive positive interactions throughout the team and enact change.
Bonus Points If Familiar with Scala, Java, or Typescript.
Experience with observability, tracking, and data‑pipeline tools and methodologies.
Previous work in an App‑first business.
