We are looking for a UK-based Engineering Manager to help run our Better Matching Experience squad, a key team supporting the user experience of matching Depop's inventory to our users. The squad's mission is 'Crafting dynamic and personalised pathways that connect users to relevant inventory & content, no matter their intent or mission.'
You will help guide your team, contribute to its impact and strategic roadmap, and shape our engineering culture of high performance and high compassion. As an Engineering Manager at Depop, you will be responsible for the success, wellbeing, and effectiveness of the team. You will work alongside a Product Manager and Product Designer as part of our wider Discover initiative, focusing on improving the user experience on the Buyer side of our marketplace to 'Create a discovery & shopping experience so intuitive that users find what they love before they even know they're looking for it.'
You will manage all engineers in the team and be responsible for creating and executing the team's roadmap. You will report to the Senior Director of Engineering in the Demand pillar.
Responsibilities:- Deliver Value and Drive Results: Ensure your team delivers high-quality solutions that meet business needs, maintaining a strong focus on delivery and creating measurable value.
- Lead and Support Your Team: Manage a cross-functional team of 3-6 engineers, ensuring they are motivated and successful. While staying hands-on is encouraged, your primary focus will be on enabling the team to perform and deliver at their best.
- Foster Growth and Feedback: Be accountable for the team's performance and career growth, providing regular feedback, guidance, and coaching through 1:1s and continuous support.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with marketing, analytics, engineering, and product teams to align goals, define priorities, and ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration.
- Build an Inclusive Culture: Advocate for team health, inclusion, and diversity, fostering a respectful and empowering environment that encourages continuous learning and improvement.
- A proven track record as an Engineering Manager of building high-performing teams and processes.
- Experience working closely with Design and Product teams, either as a Product Engineer or Engineering Manager, especially in building rich user experiences on mobile iOS.
- Ability to work across the full-stack, leveraging technical expertise to connect backend and frontend engineering standards.
- Strong ownership and delivery track record, with enthusiasm for tackling complex problems and delivering high-quality features.
- Excellent decision-making skills based on data, especially in ambiguous or changing environments, with a bias for simplicity and delivery.
- Strong stakeholder management skills to collaborate with diverse teams and achieve satisfying results.
- Ability to foster positive interactions and drive positive change within the team.
- Alignment with Depop's core values – showing community commitment, teamwork, purpose, sustainability, and thrift.
- Are familiar with Swift (iOS), Scala, or Typescript.
- Have experience with observability, tracking, and data pipeline tools and methodologies.
- Have previously worked in an app-first business.
