Company
Description: Depop is a peer‑to‑peer circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell and discover secondhand fashion.
Our mission is simple: to make fashion circular by making secondhand as exciting and rewarding as buying new.
Founded in 2011, Depop’s diverse community has helped move resale into the mainstream, where buying secondhand is no longer an alternative, but a way people of different ages now engage with fashion.
Today, more than 56million registered users come to Depop to find great value, express their own personal style and give clothes a longer life.
Role
We’re hiring a Senior i OS Engineer for our new Payments Foundations team.
You’ll be a senior i OS voice in a small, multidisciplinary team responsible for the flows that determine whether sellers get paid, whether buyers can check out in new markets, and whether Depop meets its regulatory obligations as we scale globally.
Why this role is interesting
Depop is a dual‑sided marketplace that holds money.
That means you’re not just building a checkout, you’re working across wallet balances, re‑spend, withdrawals, refunds, seller onboarding, and tax capture – each with different rules per market.
You’ll help shape how these payment flows are structured in a codebase that is migrating from UIKit to Swift UI, contributing to decisions on how that migration is approached for payment surfaces.
You’ll also contribute to Depop’s wider i OS architecture alongside our Core i OS team.
Responsibilities
- Own and ship end‑to‑end payment flows that determine how sellers get paid, how buyers can check out in new markets, and how Depop meets regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers, product managers and designers to shape payment architecture and global compliance.
- Contribute to the migration of the i OS codebase from UIKit to Swift UI, making decisions on migration strategy for payment surfaces.
- Help build and maintain robust i OS architecture as part of the Core i OS team.
- Influence technical direction in ambiguous or cross‑team situations.
What we're looking for
- Solid Swift experience, including memory management, concurrency (async/await, actors) and reasoning about state in complex flows.
- Experience with Swift UI in production, or UIKit experience with an understanding of incremental migration.
- Familiarity with MVVM‑C or similar coordination patterns.
- Experience in domains where correctness matters like payments, identity, auth or similar.
- Comfort collaborating closely with backend engineers, product managers and designers.
- Nice to have
- Experience with payment SDKs (Stripe, Pay Pal or similar).
- Experience in marketplace or Fin Tech environments.
- Familiarity with modularised i OS codebases and build‑time optimisation.
- Contributions to platform or core architecture beyond your immediate team.
- Experience influencing technical direction in ambiguous or cross‑team situations.
Benefits and Additional Information
- Health & Mental Wellbeing: PMI and cash plan, healthcare access with Bupa, subsidised counselling and coaching with Self Space.
- Cycle to Work scheme with options from Evans or the Green Commute Initiative.
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for 24/7 confidential support.
- Mental Health First Aiders across the business for support and signposting.
- 25 days of annual leave, with the option to carry over up to 5 days.
- Impact hours: up to 2 days of additional paid leave per year for volunteering.
- Fully paid 4‑week sabbatical after 5 years of consecutive service with Depop.
- Flexible working: My Mode hybrid‑working model with flex, office‑based and remote options (role‑dependent).
- Dog‑friendly offices.
- Family life: 20 weeks of paid parental leave for birth parents, 12 weeks for non‑birth parents, IVF leave, shared parental leave and paid emergency parent/carer leave.
- Learning & Growth: twice‑yearly development chats, yearly performance reviews, learning budget and company‑wide training workshops, materials and resources.
- Life Insurance: financial compensation of 3× your salary.
- Pension matching up to 6% of full base salary with Aviva.
- Depop Extras: free in‑office Depop shop, packing station with free delivery, special milestones celebrated with gifts and rewards.
