This is an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in LV and HV (11kV) connections design to join a major DNO framework.
The role involves carrying out design and costing for connections schemes and power distribution network upgrades, including:
- Analysis of low-voltage networks, including studies to determine voltage drop, fault levels, loop impedance, and network loading.
- Design of schemes to replace existing cables and conductors on low-voltage networks, including both underground and overhead networks.
- Design of cable diversion schemes on low-voltage networks, covering underground and overhead cables.
- Design of schemes to reinforce or reconfigure low-voltage networks to reduce loading and improve network flexibility, including underground and overhead networks.
- Design of simple high-voltage cable diversion and replacement schemes.
- Design of schemes for new connections to the low-voltage network.
- Design of simple schemes for new connections to the high-voltage network.
- Liaison with external customers regarding specific scheme requirements through written correspondence, telephone, face-to-face meetings, and other appropriate communication methods.
- Production of network schemes in accordance with targets and requirements defined by the Ofgem New Connections Guaranteed Standards of Performance regime.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous experience in HV connections or general HV network design up to 11kV with a DNO, IDNO or ICP
- Knowledge and application of Electricity Network Regulations and National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) requirements.
- Understanding of DNO and IDNO design standards, technical requirements, and scheme approval processes.
- Application of relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations and industry standards in network design.
- Understanding of Grid Code requirements relating to protection settings and network protection.
- Awareness and application of Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) requirements within the electricity industry.
- Understanding and application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 throughout the design and delivery process.
