We are seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead and deliver high-quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and power infrastructure projects. Working for the specialist power engineering arm of a FTSE 250 company, you will play a key role in technical delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. This role is available on a hybrid or remote basis, offering flexibility while remaining closely connected to project teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and associated infrastructure
- Produce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reports
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirements
- Provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineers
- Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Support project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessment
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards
About You:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Significant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV–400kV)
- Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirements
- Proven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of others
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable)
