Transport Operations – Containers & Distribution
- Manage and coordinate all night container and distribution movements to meet customer delivery and collection schedules.
- Supervise and support night drivers, ensuring routes are completed efficiently and safely.
- Allocate work to drivers and monitor progress using the Transport Management System (TMS).
- Liaise with ports, customers, and internal planning teams regarding collections, deliveries, and operational updates.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with legal requirements including driver hours, Working Time Directive, and company policies.
- Respond to operational issues such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, or driver queries, and implement solutions promptly.
- Monitor vehicle utilisation and maximise operational efficiency.
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee all warehouse night shift activities, including goods in, picking, loading, unloading, and dispatch.
- Ensure correct handling, storage, and dispatch of goods in line with company procedures.
- Maintain stock accuracy and ensure all movements are recorded correctly in the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Ensure loading is completed in line with transport schedules.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure a safe working environment.
Team Management
- Lead, motivate, and supervise drivers and warehouse staff on the night shift.
- Conduct shift briefings and provide clear instructions and expectations.
- Monitor staff performance and address any issues appropriately.
- Support training and development of team members.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety procedures, and operational standards.
Compliance, Safety & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations at all times.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure incidents are reported and investigated.
- Complete shift reports, including operational performance, incidents, and handovers.
- Ensure all documentation and systems are completed accurately.
Key Skills & Experience
- Essential: Experience in a transport, haulage, or logistics environment.
- Knowledge of container transport and general distribution operations.
- Experience managing or supervising teams.
- Understanding of driver hours and transport compliance.
- Good IT skills, including transport and warehouse systems.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make decisions independently.
- Desirable: Experience managing warehouse operations.
- Knowledge of port operations.
- Transport Manager CPC (or working towards).
- Forklift licence (advantageous but not essential).
