Department of Fire & Emergency Services WA – High Wycombe WA

We currently have one (1) permanent full-time position available for immediate filling. This selection process may be used to fill other similar at level vacancies that arise within twelve (12) months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may be considered for those roles. The State Bushfire Mitigation Team is responsible for the management of vegetation on unallocated Crown Land and unmanaged reserves within the Perth metropolitan area and all gazetted WA townsites. This position plays a key role in reducing the risk and impact of bushfires on communities.

The role is responsible for:

  • Using various tools, machines and equipment to remove or modify vegetation, such as firebreak construction and maintenance work, erecting signage and maintenance of water points.
  • Participating in a range of vegetation management and fuel reduction activities, including machine mulching, slashing, line trimming, and chainsaw/pole saw operations.
  • Using chemical spraying techniques to manage vegetation growth.
  • Ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with environmental considerations.
  • Maintaining relevant qualifications and undertaking training to meet organisational requirements.
  • During bushfire events, the crew may be deployed to various locations within Western Australia to assist with response and recovery operations.
