DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) Digital are looking to recruit into the following key role: Configuration Manager Level 2 (Analyst). We're looking for a motivated and detail‑oriented Configuration Manager to join our dynamic DWP Digital team.

In this key role, you'll help design and develop Configuration Management services and tools that support some of the UK's most vital digital platforms. As part of the Configuration Management Team, you'll play a central role in managing and evolving our Configuration Management Database (CMDB) ensuring it provides accurate and reliable data. You will be part of the team who own, manage and set the direction for Configuration Management and CMDB utilisation. This is an incredibly important time for the Configuration Management team, supporting the strategic high level digital programme of activity to ensure we have all relevant data in CMDB to underpin stakeholder requirements.

You'll work on both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term improvements, contributing to the delivery of our Configuration Management roadmap and supporting the ongoing needs of digital products and services across DWP. As a Level 2 Configuration Manager (analyst), you will provide technical support and assistance to infrastructure, IT Operations and transition projects. You will assist in the delivery of a first‑class service and maintain consistent levels of capability as required by the organisation. You will also be responsible for adherence to Configuration Management policy and standards governing and ensuring the maintenance and integrity of Configuration Items (CIs) along with their attributes and relationships.

You will develop and implement Configuration Management plans and procedures in accordance with defined organisational policies and standards. This will entail agreeing the scope of plans and procedures with stakeholders and ensuring that changes to plans and procedures are properly impacted and communicated. You will identify, track, control, audit and report on configuration items and associated data in accordance with the plans and procedures that you have defined.

You will monitor configuration management procedures to ensure that they are fit for purpose and evaluate existing configuration management systems, instigating improvement actions as required. Working with stakeholders, you will optimise the day‑to‑day capture and use of configuration items and associated data. You will configure and maintain tools in support of configuration management processes and report on the status of configuration management processes and data. This will include providing management information on process effectiveness.

  • Developing configuration management standards, plans, processes and procedures based on organisational policies and standards.
  • Agreeing the scope of configuration management standards, plans, processes and procedures with stakeholders to optimise the capture and use of configuration management data.
  • Evaluating existing configuration management systems.
  • Managing configuration management plans and ensuring that changes to them are properly impacted, approved and communicated.
  • Proposing and agreeing the configuration items to be uniquely identified with naming conventions, planning their population in the Configuration Management System and ensuring compliance with identification standards.
  • Developing and applying processes, techniques and tools to capture, track, correct and report on configuration items and associated data to ensure accuracy, completeness and availability.
  • Supporting the creation of formal Configuration Management baselines.
  • Using Configuration Management data to carry out impact assessment of changes and provide team approval for changes where applicable.
  • Verifying implemented changes to protect against unauthorised change.
  • Updating configuration item data as part of the implementation of approved changes.
  • Ensuring that process interfaces with other functions are clearly defined.
  • Auditing configuration management data to check for accuracy and address or recommend corrective actions.
  • Reporting on the status of configuration management data and process performance.
  • Making use of automation where possible to increase process efficiency and accuracy.
  • Carrying out routine housekeeping of the Configuration Management System.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Supporting continuous improvement of Configuration Management processes and procedures.
  • Identifying risks and issues, escalating them via your manager or the relevant stakeholder as appropriate.
  • Performing agreed line management activities for any direct reports including promoting team‑working and training.

Please note: As part of the role, you may be required to travel regularly to other digital hubs. The frequency of this travel will be discussed further should you be successful.
